The Polar Bear (Ursus Maritimus) is the undisputed king of the Arctic. Ranging in size from 410-720 kilograms, this mighty hunter is the worlds largest land carnivore and also the largest bear. The Polar Bear roams the harsh terrain of the arctic circle, living nearly its entire 30 year lifespan on the frozen sea ice of the Arctic ocean. Using its white coat as camouflage, this giant feeds almost exclusively on seal. A solitary animal, the polar bear meets only to mate. After mating, a mother will tend to her cubs for up to two years before they must find there own way. Given the vast territory occupied by Polar Bears, a concrete number is impossible to find for the global population. However, biologists believe there are anywhere between 20,000 and 25,000 Polar Bears in the wild today.
